About Us: Cong. Shaar Hashamayim
Bat Kol News has been a weekly publication for the congregants at Shaar Hashamayim of Oceanside, NY. The aim of the publication is to relate the weekly parsha to worldly concerns from a Jewish perspective.
Our congregation was established in 1964 and holds services on weekends and on all Jewish holidays. Shaar Hashamayim provides numerous opportunities to those Jews who want to participate in synagogue services through orthodox traditions.
Whether you're new to the neighborhood or new to worship, we welcome you with open arms.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:
2015
Condolences to the Odzer family, who mourn the untimely passing of our fellow congregant HOWIE ODZER. His dedicated efforts as Kohen reminded us of the importance of kashrut, Shabbat candle lighting, and our duties as Jews. We will miss his good humor and will remember him fondly.
- It's getting close to Passover... time to SELL YOUR CHAMETZ! (see form below)
- Long-time member (33 years), Dr. Steve Lichter has moved to NYC with his family. Steve was always ready to help with advice on medical questions from fellow congregants. Conducting the Hallel prayer was always a wonderful specialty of his, and a much needed experience for all of us because of the connection to the old days of Shaar Hashamayim. He will be missed (but we know he will visit us from time to time).
- The Sephardim are coming...the Sephardim are coming... the Sephardim are HERE! On various Shabbat Mevarchim we are treated to the Sephardi minhag of celebrating the New Moon. They have provided the shul with the appropriate nusach and their cantillation's influence adds new spiritual inspiration to our services.
- Our fellow congregant Murray Attie passed away. His chanting as hazan for morning prayers were always special as well as his insights into historical politics and the present day legal profession. A loving husband, father and grandfather -he will be missed.
- A fund-raiser effort is under way to fix up our shul.
